According to ENA Technical Specification 12-23 issue 4 2018 + Amendment 1 2020

4ward Testing carries out the requirements for this ENA specification including dimensions, layout, colour, physical and chemical properties.

ENA Technical Specification (ENA TS) sets out comprehensive guidelines for the testing and standards of materials used in the protection and warning systems for buried electricity supply cables. This specification specifically addresses polyethylene warning tape, polyethylene protection tape, polyethylene protection tiles, and cable route marker posts.

Compliance with dimensions of warning tape, protection tape, and protection tiles crucial to ensure effective coverage and visibility. Adhering to the specified dimensions guarantees that the warning and protection systems provide adequate coverage and are easily detectable during excavation or maintenance activities.

ENA TS outlines the physical and chemical properties that the materials must possess to meet the standards. This includes resistance to abrasion, impact, and chemical degradation. The materials must withstand environmental challenges, ensuring that the warning and protection systems remain intact and functional over their operational life.

The specification defines the color and lettering layout for warning tape and protection tape. The color must be highly visible, typically a vibrant shade, to enhance visibility during excavation work. Additionally, the layout of lettering on the tape is standardized to convey essential information effectively. This ensures that anyone working near or excavating around buried cables can quickly identify the presence of electricity supply infrastructure.

ENA TS incorporates rigorous testing procedures to verify the compliance of warning tape, protection tape, and protection tiles which have been successfully implemented by 4ward Testing. These tests assess various aspects, including tensile strength, elongation, adhesion, and resistance to environmental factors. Adhering to these testing procedures guarantees that the materials meet the required standards and provide reliable protection for buried electricity supply cables.
